“Without a doubt, THE MESSENGER is the most outstanding film I’ve seen on birds. The fact that it is so strongly science-based, so emotive in its pitch, so beautiful in its design it captivates me and everyone who has had a chance to see it.” Steven Price, President, Bird Studies Canada

An essential film for anyone who cares about the environment and nature
and full of insights and revelations for all audiences

THE MESSENGER explores our deep-seated connection to birds and warns that the uncertain fate of songbirds might just mirror our own.

An artful investigation into the causes of songbird mass depletion and the compassionate people who are working to turn the tide.
THE MESSENGER will take you on a visually stunning journey to reveal how the problems facing birds also pose daunting implications for our planet and ourselves.

“The arguments are persuasive, the message from the birds powerful, and the film a rich and satisfying call to action that is presented with some novel ideas for how to restore the ecological balance.”

More about THE MESSENGER
Filmed across three continents The Messenger extends us a ‘birds’-eye view’ to offer fresh glimpses into epic migratory journeys while chronicling the struggle of songbirds worldwide to survive in turbulent environmental conditions. As scientists, activists and bird enthusiasts investigate this phenomenon, amazing secrets of the bird world come to light for the first time while beautiful slow motion photography illustrates the power and beauty of these delicate winged creatures.
The Messenger is both an artful story about the mass depletion of songbirds on multiple continents (and those who are working to turn the tide) and a visually stunning emotional journey, one that mixes its reflective message with hopeful notes and unique glances into the influence of songbirds on our own expressions of the soul. The Messenger leaves viewers with a profound appreciation for the billions of birds with whom we share our communities and our planet – and with hope for our collective ability to turn the tide.
The Messenger is a Canada/France co-production. The film is being released in the UK through PIPOCA.
The film premiered at the prestigious Hot Docs Film Festival, securing a Top Ten Audience Award and has since won numerous awards and accolades including the award for Best Conservation Program at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival in the USA.
